Mission and Ministry

Our Parish, through outreach programs, is dedicated not only to satisfying needs of "far away" places but looking at concerns of this local community. The church is always open to groups; such as AA and Alzheimer's Support, serving the needs of this community.

Ten Percent of the annual operations budget is committed to Outreach. St Matthias along with the Presbyterian Church, was responsible for founding of the Toccoa Soup Kitchen. And members continue to share responsibilities with other groups.

One of the ministries we are most proud of is our Food Pantry. Working with the local Department of Families and Children, we feed local people in need. In addition, our youth deliver food at Thanksgiving and the church members buy gifts for children who have been identified b the Department of Family and Children's Services at Christmas.

Another important outreach effort is our partnership with St. Luke's, New Orleans. We have partnered with them to help them walk through the process of rebuilding their parish and their lives after the devastating effects of Hurricane Katrina. Various parishioners have donated time and effort to send good wishes, monetary gifts and a wonderful, hand-sewn Easter Banner.
